Charlene

I am Charlene Stotter, and find myself to be the leader and director of Zimkids. I’m a Zimbabwean, but lived in England for 6 years, which is where I became a Christian and attended Morden Baptist Church. In late 2005 I felt God wanted me to return to Zimbabwe to take the love of God to people there. So I went there to explore, and as a result conceived Zimkids as “supporting orphans and vulnerable families in Zimbabwe as an expression of the love of Jesus Christ”. This became a reality in March 2007, sponsored through Morden Baptist Church, as a ministry of Highlands Presbyterian Church, Harare, which is where I and the team work from.

Hi! I’ve been with Zimkids since January 2008. My official title at Zimkids is “Income Generating Projects Leader” & I have a passion to see the people we help producing their own food & paying their way through life. I’m 21 years old & grew up an only child in one of Zimbabwe’s smallest towns. This is the first time I’ve lived in Harare & in spite of the fact I’m living with my colleagues in the messiest house in town, I’m loving it! I’m the pretty face & style of Zimkids & if I wasn’t doing this I would probably be striding the worlds of fashion & music with my own band and clothing line. One of my biggest dreams is to travel, as I have never been out of Zim before. Would love to see India, Japan, Nepal & New York. The world is waiting for me but right now my heart is in Zim.

Terri

I’m supposed to do the admin in the Zimkids office but have rapidly become the ‘run-around’ doing all things imaginable! From shopping to sellotaping holes in plastic bags! But nevertheless, I love it all so it’s rewarding being able to help people. Personally, I’m with Zimkids because I know this is where God wants me, and I’m here until God moves me. I’m often known as ‘mum’ in the team – because I’m always checking up on the boys!

My charge is a site in Mutoko that is approx. 200km away from our base at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Harare, and my job is to make sure that the kids out there are getting enough food, education, clothing and that most of all – they hear the gospel. And this is the main reason I’m part of Zimkids. I like to see kids being given a fair chance and most of all to grow in God’s likeness…you see, I can put my effort into helping these kids and have kids with a promising future, but if they don’t have God, well then I have done nothing! Sound Engineering is my profession outside of the Church and I will be doing sound wherever I can. For fun I like playing the guitar – bass – and the piano, and I run a cricket club with friends, called Eagles Cricket Club.

Hobbies: Listening to music, playing ultimate frisbee, sound mixing at church, P.C. Gaming, reading Previous Work: Hospitality Management Training, Photography Shop I’m a Zimbabwean, born and raised. I grew up in Harare, the capital city in which Zimkids operates. I first became involved with helping the poor when a group came from Morden Baptist in 2006. Since then my involvement in this kind of work has grown into working full time with Zimkids – to bring hope and material support to underprivileged families.

…. And our volunteer teaching team:-

Yolanda (“Yoyo”)

I am aged 22 and I started working with Zimkids in March 2008. I am now doing Bible teaching and academic teaching, and have always enjoyed playing games with the children. My hobbies are travelling, watching movies, and reading novels. I am also studying Accounts. I have learnt a lot since starting working with Zimkids. For example, spending most of my time with the poor, and spreading the word of God. Zimkids has changed my life very much.    (Yolanda is not working with the team now – September 2009.  Thanks for your time with us Yoyo.)

Tracy

I am 22 and I have been doing volunteer work with Zimkids since April 2009, and will now be with them on a more permanent basis, teaching our very own discipleship course “Kickstart” in various schools. So far we have been teaching at 2 girls’ high schools and it is GREAT!! Getting to know and love the girls has been a real blessing. I look forward to watching them grow in the love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus.
I am still trying to finish school in the hopes of going to medical school and becoming a surgeon. I still hold on to that dream and I am persevering with my studies, but not allowing it to hinder or stop God from working in my life. I’ll go wherever He leads me…..It’s exciting!”

Johnson

I am aged 23 and started working with Zimkids in May 2009.   What I like most about Zimkids is that it changed my life completely, because I can now share the Bible with the poor.  I have been learning to do this more, and in August 2009 really enjoyed teaching at a camp we held for teenagers outside Harare.
