What’s Zimkids?
UK Registered Charity 1127069
Zimkids was launched in November 2006 as a practical way of supporting and standing with children and young people in Zimbabwe who need our help. Life isn’t easy for young people in Zimbabwe. Many have been orphaned or abandoned due to HIV/AIDS, poverty and political instability.
Morden Baptist Church has had links with Zimbabwe for several years through family, friends and missionary contacts. As a church we are committed to praying and supporting people in practical ways. We have sent action teams out to Zimbabwe previously, and will continue to do so.
Zimkids is a scheme run by Morden Baptist Church as part of the response to the overwhelming need in Zimbabwe. Our team who are based in Zimbabwe personally identify the children in need by frequently visiting local communities, churches, orphanages and hospitals.
The Zimkids programme provides children with education, clothing, food and health care, and instruction in self-support. Almost all of the children we have identified are orphans, without any other means of support.
Why Zimbabwe?
Many other charitable organisations cannot work in Zimbabwe due to the current political environment.
This has left many children vulnerable. According to the World Health Organisation, Zimbabwe has the lowest life expectancy in the world, as well as the highest percentage of orphans per capita in the world. Once a child becomes an orphan, they are statistically far less likely to receive an education. Without education there is no way a child will ever be able to break out of poverty.
The Zimkids programme would like to give these children the opportunity to receive education, and aid the fulfilment of basic needs such as food, shelter and health care, and instruct in self-support.
With your help we will be able to reach more children, sooner!
